In Apple’s Health app, you can now track your mental health and well-being. Basically, this is designed to recognize mental health based on the iPhone data. Here we are going to talk about this mental well-being feature.

What is this Mental Wellbeing Feature?
This feature comes with the Apple Health app to monitor your moods, emotions, and overall mental health. With this users can now monitor their emotional state over a chosen time period and analyze it. Also, it has questions that help you to understand depression, anxiety, and cognitive states. With that users can share these data with their medical professional to understand your state clearly.
Logging to the Apple’s Mental Health Feature
To use this feature in the Health app you have to have a device with iOS 17 or iPad 17. Also if you have an Apple Watch you can also use it with watchOS 10. That watch has a mindfulness app. In here you can see whenever you log your mood for the exact time period or that day. For that,
iPad or iPhone
For logging to the emotional well-being on iPhones or iPads
- First, tap on the health app icon. For iPhone on the screen, you can see “Browse” at the bottom right corner. For iPad tap on the sidebar icon.
- In the drop-down menu, you can see the “Mental well-being” feature. Tap on it.
- In there tap on “State of mind”.
- If you are a first-time user tap on “Get started”. After that tap on Begin. Whenever you start to record your emotions you have to log in to the app.

- After that, a window will appear on your screen. It has two options. Tap on one. They are “How you feel right now” or “How you have felt overall today”. If you want to check momentum feelings choose How you feel right now option and if you want your mood throughout the day choose “How you have felt overall today”. You can move between these two options just tap on each of them.
- To choose the best match for your feelings, drag the slider on the scale. The best one is “Very pleasant” and the bad state is “Very unpleasant”. Then tap on “Next”.

- Then choose the words that suit to describe your mood and tap next.
- After that, you can choose the feelings that describe your biggest impact on the day. Then tap done.
For Apple Watch
For Apple Watch users the steps are slightly different than for iPhone and iPad
- First, open the “State of mind” in your mindfulness app. If this is your first time using this app tap on “Get Started”. If you log in before just tap on “Log” and it will navigate to the screen.
- Then you can select one from “Log how you are feeling right now” or “Log how you have felt overall today”.
- Then turn the digital crown to choose the best feeling to tell about your mood and emotions. Then tap on the checkmark in the upper right corner.
- Then you will navigate to another screen that shows words to describe your emotions. Choose the one you can describe it best. And tap on the checkmark.
- Then select the best options for “What is having the biggest impact on you”. Then tap on the checkmark on the upper right corner again and finish your task.
Take an Assessment
As Apple mentioned they encourage you to take the test twice in a year. From that, you can understand if you have depression or anxiety. They use the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7). To access this,
- First, open the health app.
- Choose the browse option and choose Mental well-being.
- Here navigate to “Get more from health” and tap “Take questionnaires”. Here you can see “Anxiety Risk” or “Depression Risk”. If you choose one previously now you can do the second one. then confirm your age.

- Then answer all the questions and tap done.
