As 2024 finally gets closer to the end, now is the season for all the year-end tech highlights and awards. With all the tech giants in a never-ending battle to launch mind-blowing innovations day by day, these year-end awards and highlights are now one of the most awaited news for all tech enthusiasts all around the world. Recently, the Apple Vision Pro was honored as the “Innovation of the Year” by Popular Science magazine from a pool of 50 other innovations that were launched in 2024, including the Transparent TV and the famous AI Cheese, both of which took the world by storm.
Apple Vision Pro is a newly released Augmented Reality (AR) Virtual Reality (VR) device that incorporates the added reality via AR into the device. It entered the market in February 2024. Rather than a mere AR headset, Apple calls the Apple Vision Pro a Spatial Computer that smoothly brings a mixed reality experience by laying augmented reality digital content on top of your surrounding reality. Apple Vision Pro features a pair of OLED displays, each offering a 4K resolution, heightened in quality by 24 million pixels devoted to intensifying the immersive experience.
Beside this, Transparent TVs are another great achievement for technology in this year. These have undoubtedly transformed the television experience to a whole other level. Simply said, transparent TVs are see-through; hence, the visuals displayed through them simply appear to be floating in mid-air, and when turned off, look like regular glass. The magic of transparent TVs is achieved by OLED technology, together with an ultra-thin design and high-quality visuals, while adding a futuristic vibe to the interiors.
AI Cheese, on the other hand, gained the attention to the public after the stunning news of plant-based, smooth vegan cheese, which was developed by artificial intelligence, the most unexpected thing of all. With potential food production challenges birthing due to the rising demand for food as a result of the fastly growing population, AI cheese laid a strong foundation on automating eco-friendly food production, providing optimum solutions to potential global problems.
Though both Transparent TVs and AI cheese are two genius and undeniably exciting masterpieces of technological innovation, Apple Vision Pro still leads clearly. As Popular Science magazine says, “Although AR headsets have been around before, this one stands out and earns our recognition for its remarkable potential”. It’s part of Apple’s overall hardware plan.”, pointing out the clearly identifiable versatility and its ability to adapt to a wide range of user needs. This was well backed at the annual ICS conference, where industries like Intel Research showcased how the device’s data could push technological boundaries even further.
However, as it stands, Apple’s Vision Pro costs 3,500 USD, which is a huge amount, especially for most. Even Popular Science magazine acknowledged this, saying, “Still, we’re curious to see what Apple does next because a consumer-friendly price on an experience like this could be a true game changer.”
While the Apple Vision Pro may not be accessible and affordable to everyone yet, it’s proof of what’s possible when innovation skyrockets. With so much progress in 2024, it’s clear that the tech world is just getting started, we have a long way to go. We can’t wait to share with you the newest updates in 2025 as well.
