Starting next year 2025, Apple plans to update all iPhone models with OLED display. This means that Apple is ready to phase out the liquid crystal display from all of its iPhone models, even from low-cost iPhone SE models.
OLED display
OLED means organic light-emitting diode displays. It emits light on its own and for that, it uses organic compounds. This can offer more vivid colors and good contrast than LCD displays. In 2017, Apple first time used OLED displays for their iPhone X model. 2015, they ordered more than 200 million displays from JDI and Sharp suppliers but it dropped to around 20 million in 2023. For now, they use these OLED displays for their iPads and other products.
This means the main Apple display suppliers will change. South Korean and Chinese corporations now dominate the OLED market, and they will be the main display suppliers for Apple. According to sources, Apple has started ordering their new iPhone SE models, working together with China’s BOE Technology Group and South Korea’s LG Display to make it happen.
As per the report, the iPhone OLED display market is 50 percent led by Samsung Electronics, 30 percent by LG Display, and 20 percent by BOE.
