The latest Apple iPhone update is iOS 17.4, which was released on 5th March 2024. But before that, they introduced iOS 17.2 to their customers last year. With this update, they introduced many new features to the users. Most of them are related to the security field. Even though they introduced many new features with iOS 17.4, some features from iOS 17.2 remain among the best. One of them is Contact Key Verification. With this feature, you can easily verify if you are texting with the right person.
For normal people, this is not the best feature. But for people who are engaged in high-risk and dangerous activities very often, this Contact Key Verification is one of the best features. This is especially beneficial for government organization members and journalists. This feature allows them to recognize if they dealing with the right person or not. It applies an extra layer of security for them. But there is a limitation. To work this properly the person you texting with also has to enable this feature. Below we are going to tell you how to enable this Contact Key Verification and how to use it.
Enable the Contact Key Verification
- Open the Settings app first.
- When you open the Settings app, you can see the Apple ID near the top of the screen.
- Tap on the ID.
- In the bottom of the menu you can see the Contact Key Verification option.
- Then tap on the switch next to the Verification.
When you switch on it you can see a pop-up menu with the Contact Key Features. Tap on the Continue on it.
After tapping on Continue, you can see another splash screen. Here you can see if you want to enable this feature, you have to update your devices to the latest version. You can choose ok Remove Devices. When you tap on OK your devices start to update. But even If you don’t want to on this feature, you have to update your devices.
How to Verify the Identity
After you activate this feature. You can see a new option added to the Contact Key Verification menu. It is Show Public Verification Code. Here you can see your verification code. It is a combination of symbols, numbers, and letters. Below this code, you can see the Copy option. With that, you can copy your code and share it with other people. Now people can verify if they messaging you or not.
Generating New Codes in Messages
There is an option, you can generate a unique code when you text someone. With this feature, you can quickly identify if you are texting with the right person. As mentioned before for that you and the other one have to enable this feature.
To do this,
- First, open the Messages app.
- Then tap on the conversation you want to start.
- In here tap on the person’s name.
- After that, you can see the contact verification near the bottom of the menu.
Tap on it. Then compare the code with each other. If it matches, tap on Marked as Verified. After that tap on Update. You can see a checkmark will appear next to the user’s name. if it code doesn’t match, you can tap on the No Match option. Wait until you can verify the person.
